This Blueprint is developed in collaboration with its Originator with the purpose to enable as many people as possible to take action for sustainable building material.

About the project

The Eco-bricks project was developed by Fundación Ecoinclusion, an Argentinian NGO that found a way to mix shred plastic, sand and glueing material to assemble eco-bricks, to be used for social houses and community centres in vulnerable communities. This model is known in many other places in the world, but their approach reduces 40% of production costs thanks to a key scheme of alliances and revenue-making mechanisms which can be replicated in each city.

More about the project

Recycling is a major issue in cities around the world at the same time as access to sustainable construction material. In 2017 the global plastic recycling scheme was put on notice when the PRC blocked plastics from entering the country. Since then much of the plastic has landed in places without the capacity to handle a huge influx. As a result more plastic is being incinerated and ending up in the environment than ever before. Recycling plastic in this way and creating an impact venture can turn waste materials into a valuable resource for sustainable construction.
