This toolkit is developed in collaboration with its Originator with the purpose to enable as many people as possible to take action for sustainable building material.

About the project

The Eco-Brick, developed in Argentina, is a unique building material to help communities recycle plastic and build housing by reducing manufacturing costs by 40% with a key alliance and revenue structure.

The Eco-Brick has been used to build everything from bus shelters to beach houses and can be used to address housing shortages in every climate. The material is made using a particular recipe of shredded plastic, sand, and glue which can be sourced locally anywhere.

More about the project

A community can drastically change the impact of plastic on the environment by recycling locally to make a versatile material like the Eco-Brick. At the same time this method creates new jobs for people which accelerates social inclusion and reduces poverty.

Since 2017 the global plastic recycling infrastructure has been in flux but communities on a local level can have a huge influence on the outcome of this uncertainty.
